This is a must for our family, you can make several different flavors and colors and then tie different colored pieces in cellophane for a festive look. *yummy too*
Broken Glass Candy
confectioners’ sugar
3 3/4 cups granulated sugar
1 1/4 cups light Karo syrup
1 cup water
Food coloring
1 teaspoon oil flavoring (available at pharmacy
in flavors such as cinnamon, anise,
wintergreen, spearmint, lime)
Sprinkle confectioners’ sugar on 2 (15 x 11-inch) cookie sheets.
Combine sugar, Karo syrup and water in heavy saucepan and stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Continue to cook, without stirring, until syrup reaches 290 degrees F on candy thermometer.
Remove from heat and add food coloring to desired intensity and the desired oil flavoring. Pour onto cookie sheets, cool and break into small pieces.
why not make some things which are going to last? like jam and pickled eggs/onions jamie oliver did some of this kinda thing last christmas i remember watching it im sure if you google jamie oliver christmas basket or something it should come up!
go to Sam’s Club (or other wholesale store near you) and during the holidays they have boxes of different flavored teas, coffees and cocoa mixes- there are like 5 to a pkg so you can put one in each of your baskets. add in some coffee mugs from the dollar store
make soup mixes in jars- layer all dry ingredients in a canning jar and make a recipe card that tells what to add and how to cook it.
maybe some holiday serving dishes or a candy dish along with a holiday towel set
candles are always good
only bad thing to baking your gifts for everyone is they are eating the whole week already from other edible gifts and pigging out at parties. I would suggest to make jar mixes (same as the soup idea) so they can make them at a later time. I know I can’t eat all the stuff I receive during the holidays, and I’m sure your family and friends would feel bad throwing away any uneaten gifts you had made them!
Different types of breads, brownies, homemade Christmas shaped sugar cookies, candy canes, gourmet coffee and or teas, peppermint candies, chocolate covered pretzels, caramels, chocolate covered caramels, pop corn, mini marshmallows, cheeses, crackers, jellies, or any foods that you know your mom and dad really like. You could also put a Christmas mug and a Christmas plate so when they eat their goodies they have the mug to put their drink in and a plate to put their goodies on.
